Class History
The last mainline diesel locomotive built for British Railways, the Class 60 arose from the arrival, and subsequent sucess, of the Class 59 locomotive.
With a haulage capacity and reliability superior to the Class 31, 37 and 47 locomotives in sector service at the time, Trainload Petroleum, Metals, Consruction and Coal were prompted to lobby for a new UK designed locmotive to match it. British Rail Board eventually secured the necessay treasury funding and following a difficult procurement process, the contract was finally awarded to Brush Electrical Machines of Loughborough on May 17th, 1988 for 100 Locomotives.

60044 Dowlow was built at Brush Traction's works in July 1991 and carried the name Aisla Crag from new, unitl January 1996, then again from March 1996 to August 1997.
To mark the signing of a five year transportation plan
60044 Dowlow was built at Brush Traction's works in July 1991 and carried the name Aisla Crag from new, unitl January 1996, then again from March 1996 to August 1997.
To mark the signing of a five year transportation plan contract between Hope Construction Materials and DB Schenker Rail UK, on September 16th, 2015, 60044 was named Dowlow at a ceremony that took place at Hope's Walsall facility.
